Q.1
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

Stayed within the conventions

Closeups

close ups and extreme close ups usualy feature heavily in indy music videos, we tried to stick with this as much as possible. throughout our entire video we used variouse close ups, mainly of the face to help emphasize certain points in the video, e.g. in the "your love" part close to the end of the video. we chose to compare this to 'this is the life' by amy mcdonald as this video also makes extensive use of close ups. another reason we used close ups is to enforce the theme throung showing emotions in closeup shots and focusing alot on the eyes (which have a cold feel to them). in 'this is the life' there is also a large focus on her eyes so you can see emotion more clearly.

The verve - Bitter sweet Symphony - narrative

one convention used in indie videos that we chose to stick with war narrative. as inspiration for this we chose to use the master shot from bitter sweet symphony by the verve in which the lead singer is seen walking down the pavement in a city. we made our shot match this by having our actress walk down the center of a path of through some trees. we used this shot as it gave the impression that the video was going somewhere which added to the narrative and was aimed to keep the viewer interested in the video.
the shot from bitter sweet symphony is similar to this as the entire video is the lead singer walking down the street which is a very clear narrative which is the idea that we tried to convey in our music video.

Developing Conventions
Lighting-miley cyrus

a convention we tried to developed was the lighting, indie videos are typically fairly light with enhanced colours to create the care free enviroment, but we decided to go the opposite direction and by using a darker shading with a blue wash and slight dulled colours to create a feeling of loneliness and sadness which differs from the usual theme of indie videos which is care free and calm. we were using this colour sheme to try and create a Gothic fairy tale theme which we thought would be best for our general idea of what we wanted, and we felt that the colour scheme we used helped to achieve this combined with the theme of the song.

Mise en Scene -Location

the locations used in a music video can really help to enforce the theme, for example we used the dolls house scene to help link the video to Alice in wonderland as it is quite a memorable scene (this idea was confirmed by the positive feedback on the scene from our 1st viewing) the video we have compared our to also relates to its chosen theme through memorable locations.

Challenging Conventions

Mise en Scene - Theme

one way we developed conventions is through theme. if you listen to Misplaced you can feel a slight fairy tale theme, we decided to stick with this theme and used various props relating to our chosen theme, which is Alice in wonderland. props such as the drink me bottle from alice in wonderland and the carriage from Cinderella help to link the videos to there respective themes. if you watch our video you will see that there is a very noticable difference with the general idea of what wonderland is like, the main idea behind this chage of theme is a bit of inspiration from the book and game 'madness returned' wich is a more gothic and dark sequel to alice in wonderland.

Motif

to challenge another convention we made a motif, or a recurring visual theme. we used a motif to enhance the general theme and narrative so the video was more followable. shots such as the dolls house scenes in our video and missplaced reccur multiple time throughout the entive video to make it more followable and in our case to further enforce the theme of alice in wonderland as in our view the dolls house scene is a fairly significan and memorable scene.
